Recycle This! formed in 2002 when Mayor Michael Bloomberg cut New York City's recycling of plastics and glass (since restored), improperly framing it as solely an economics issue (with data that has since been found to be flawed) and continued working at a grassroots activism level through 2009. RT!'s focus has been to raise awareness around recycling, reducing, reusing and re-thinking trash in NYC by looking at our consumption and lifestyle choices. New York City residents throw out 12-13,000 tons of trash A DAY which gets exported to and through mostly poor communities in other states. Recycle This! has organized electronics recycling events, film screenings of "Gone Tomorrow: The Hidden Life of Garbage" with director Heather Rogers, hosted Freecycle NYC FreeMeets, presented Eco*Fairs, arranged for Christmas Trees pick ups (when the City wasn't doing it!) and more! The group is currently on a hiatus. On this site, you'll find older information about what was going on with recycling in New York City and some of our past events. For any questions, you can write to info@recyclethisnyc.org but there may be a delay in response. Thanks for checking out our site!
